Spirit Bear Lodge lies in the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest and the Great Bear Sea, which is home to one of the world’s healthiest marine ecosystems with abundant biodiversity.

Sitting still and quiet on the edge of a river in the remote heart of the Great Bear Rainforest, as rain falls, the anticipation of the moment the rarest bear in the world shows itself is palpable.

The spirit bear exists only in a small area of the remote northern coast of British Columbia known as The Great Bear Rainforest.

The herring and their eggs are so important to the Great Bear Rainforest ecosystem, feeding not only the giants of the sea, but also the small animals and birds along the shore.

Guide Jack Plant talks about finding stories and meaning behind the photos he takes.

A great guide is not one that gets you the closest to the wildlife, it is someone who can read wildlife behaviour and not comprise the animals well being.

Humpbacks in this area were whaled intensely until the 1960’s. Over 40 harvested in 1965 alone. Hunted to near extinction.
