Honouring Our Past to Build a Better Future

Welcome, Yau,

We welcome our guests back to Spirit Bear Lodge and the Kitasoo Xai’xais territory with excitement and a few important words that we’d like to share with you.

As always we are guided by our vision statement: Connect. Respect. Protect.

These 3 powerful words are present to remind us of our ‘why’ as we reopen in a world that looks very different than it did 2 years ago.

We’d like to share an important message with you regarding reconciliation.  The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada has created a page on their website for visitors to read in preparing for their Indigeneous tourism experiences.  We invite you to take some time with this and understand the importance of this preparation before visiting the Kitasoo Xai’xais territory this season.

Our values reflect the important work we all have to do to heal and walk towards a better way of treating each other.  We hope our visitors see meaning in these values as well:

Respect: We demonstrate respect and appreciation for each other, nature, wildlife and our culture. We share our culture, special places and traditions appropriately with visitors and invite visitors to respectfully engage with our people and territory.

Pride: We take pride in our business and sharing our traditions, culture and ways of living with guests.

Ethical: We operate with transparency, accountability and honesty.

Protect: Our work supports the protection of the Kitasoo/Xai’xais culture, traditions and all aspects of their traditional territory’s natural environment.

The lodge has created opportunities for young and old to thrive in their homelands, while educating people from around the world with our rich culture. - Roxanne Robinson

Connection: We create emotional connections between people and nature, leading to transformative change.

Supportive: We foster a supportive work environment that builds the skills of our staff and community for Spirit Bear Lodge to become an Indigenous-led and managed organization.

Social enterprise: Our business practices are progressive, innovative and sustainable.

Community First: The needs of our community and impacts of our actions on residents and the natural environment are considered first in everything we do.

We thank you for joining us on this journey that will intertwine you with this special place, its story and its people who continue to protect it for future generations.

Giasixa,

The Spirit Bear Lodge Team
